Making Bird Feeders!
Posted 10/16/23Ohio County, WV - Our North Park 1 students used their communication skills to engage in conversation about the how, what, where, and why of making bird feeders. The hand and eye coordination used here was hard at work for this special activity. Listening skills were put to the test by listening to complex sentences and following the directions Miss Samantha and Miss O’Linda provided.
Students made predictions as to how we were going to get the bird seed to stick. “Glue” was an answer one student gave. “Yes, glue would make it stick!...Can birds eat glue?” She replies, “No.” “ Why not?” “It could make them sick.” After some brainstorming we concluded sun butter would be safe to use in the classroom and for the birds. Each student took home their bird feeder to hang outside at home. We will be hanging our bird feeder outside the classroom to see if birds visit the feeder. As we continue our tree study, we are learning about what creatures live in trees, how trees change over time, and what trees are often used for.
Look at those sweet faces!
